Hong Kong's External Trade in
 Information Technology and Telecommunications Products

Graph 104 - IT&T retained imports and IT&T imports as a percentage of all retained imports and total imports including all goods and services respectively.

IT&T product imports as a percentage of Hong Kong's retained import and total import trade including goods and services (Line Graph)
Note 1:  The Hong Kong government typically distinguishes between imports and re-exports. Re-exports are goods that are received from abroad and passed along to another country with no value added. Retained imports are the difference between imports and re-exports. In this graph the line retained merchandise imports (green line) compares IT&T retained merchandise imports with all retained merchandise imports for each of the years indicated.
Note 2: The series labelled import of all goods and services (purple line) compares IT&T merchandise imports with all goods and services imports. If IT&T service imports were included the data points for this series would be somewhat higher. No data for IT&T service imports were provided in the report cited below (see tables 6.1, 6.2, and 6.3 of Hong Kong as an Information Society). (graph 105b)
Note 3: During the years 2000 and 2001 there was an important buying spree of foreign produced IT&T equipment including computer hardware, computer software, and telecommunications equipment.
