The play Leben des Galilei was written between the years 1938 and 1939 while Bertolt Brecht (new window) was in exile in Denmark. It was first performed in the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 1943. A revised version was performed at the Coronet Theatre in Beverly Hills, California in1947.
