Distribution of all households and households with a computer by four major dwelling types. (Two pie graphs)
Note 1: See table 55 for a further breakdown of dwelling types and brief description of each.
Note 2: Obviously Hong Kong households with income under HK$10,000 are not all of the public rental type; otherwise this category of housing would represent a much larger proportion of all households (see graph 90b for comparison). Nevertheless, this dwelling type demonstrates behavior very similar to that observed for households with income under HK$10,000, as it comprises more than 25% of all dwellings (right graph), but less than 25% of those with a household computer (left graph). This suggests that a culture of poverty could be forming, or has already formed. (See reasons given for not owning a household computer in graph 89a.)
Note 3: The category of dwelling type labelled temporary housing is obviously small. As software limitations prohibit a very good depiction of this category, its percent fraction has been placed in the key as an average of those dwellings in this category with a household computer and without.
Note 4: "Personal computers refers to a computer designed for individual use. Personal computers includes desktop computer, laptop/notebook computer and Personal Digital Assistant. Servers, workstations and terminals of mainframe or minicomputer are not included. Personal computers may be connected to form a Local Area Network (LAN) or Wide Area Network (WAN)."  Source: Hong Kong Government. Census and Statistics Department. Nevertheless, this dwelling type demonstrates behavior very similar to that observed for households with income under HK$10,000, as it comprises more than a quarter of all dwellings (right graph), but only slightly more than 1/5 of those with access to the internet (left graph). This suggests that a culture of poverty could be forming, or has already formed. (See reasons given for no internet access in graph 89b.)
