Note 1: The data for columns (1) and (2) were taken from columns (1) and (8) of table 48. See also column (1) of table 43. (table)
Note 2: The data for this column were obtained by dividing the value in column (2) by its corresponding value in column (1). (table)
Note 3: The data in this column are divided into three major groups including secondary (S1 - S7), primary (P1 - P6), and kindergarten (K1 - K3). The data for each level (K1 - S7) were found by dividing the number of grade levels for each major group  into total teacher salary expenditure for that group. Total salary expenditure for each group was taken from the grand total found at the bottom of each of the following webpages. The sources for these data are found on each of the corresponding pages. sources of waste (teachers' salaries) | table
Note 4: These data were taken from row (1) of table 47c. Please see note 1 under table 47c for an explanation of the derivation.  (table)
Note 5: These data were obtained by multiplying each of the values in column (4) by its respective value in column (5). The result is a rough estimate of government expenditure allocated to English language instruction. It includes only the cost of labor. Classroom space, utilities, and school supplies, such as books, paper, software, computer hardware, etc., are not included. Please see note 2 under table 52b. (table)
Note 6: The data in this column were obtained by multiplying each value of column (6) times its corresponding value in column (3). The underlying assumption is that teachers and students are proportioned similarly across all subjects. (table)
